As a Leave of Absence Supervisor, you will serve as the working subject matter expert for all U.S., Puerto Rico and Canadian leave programs, providing comprehensive to support all corporate and branch locations. This includes the supervision of a team responsible for the administration of all leave requests and accommodations, ensuring compliance with all relevant leave laws and regulations. You will also coordinate reasonable accommodations, collaborating with employees, HR partners and legal teams.

What you’ll do:

Leave of Absence Program Owner:

  • Support the compliance program-ensuring adherence to all applicable local, state, federal and provincial laws for leave of absence and accommodations.

  • Lead process improvements focused on employee leave and accommodation experiences.

  • Works in collaboration with Payroll and the third party administrator to ensure accurate pay during leaves and efficient processing of disability claims processing.

  • Develop and deliver training for HR and management on leave protocols, fostering awareness.

  • Regularly audit leave cases to ensure compliance and accuracy.

  • Provide recommendations to the Benefits Leadership Team for the Workday Absence module, to enhance the end user experience while maintaining functionality and compliance.

  • Ongoing administration of direct billing process, including monthly reconciliation, vendor relationship, and benefit coverage cancellations due to non-payment.

  • Direct the development and delivery of educational resources to employees, HR, and management about leave of absence protocols, promoting a culture of awareness and understanding.

  • Drive the continuous review and modification of leave policies and procedures based on up-to-date expertise on all state, federal and provincial leave programs.

  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with HR, Legal, Payroll, and third-party administrators to efficiently manage leaves and address complex cases.

  • Develop and maintain reports and metrics related to leaves of absence.

U.S. Disability Benefit Owner:

  • Ongoing administration of U.S. Short- and Long-Term Disability program including utilization review, ongoing program communications, resolution of escalated issues, and vendor management.

  • Support Benefits Director during annual renewal process.

Supervision:

  • Supervise a team of leave of absence administrators.

  • Ensure adequate/skilled staffing; selection of employees; establish performance goals and priorities; prepare, conduct and review performance appraisals; develop, mentor and coach staff; motivate staff to work collaboratively and cooperatively; ensure efficiency of operations; and oversee personal and professional goal development.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or related field. Master’s degree preferred

  • Certified Leave Management Specialist (CLMS) certification helpful

  • 5+ years of direct leave of absence and benefits experience in a multinational corporation performing related duties

  • Comprehensive knowledge of US Federal and State regulations pertaining to paid and unpaid leaves of absence, ADAA and FMLA regulations

  • Experience with Canadian leave laws is a plus

  • Experience with managing a Disability vendor

  • Strong proficiency with MS Office: Word, PowerPoint, Excel (pivot tables, vlook-ups, etc.)

  • Experience managing/directing a workforce and driving results

  • Working knowledge of Workday Absence Management module a plus

  • Strong organizational/multitasking skills with acute attention to detail

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to be able to interact with all levels of organization

  • Can investigate, propose, plan, implement ideas; drives change
