Hiring our homecoming heroes

If you are an active duty member, veteran, reservist or family member, you will find that United Rentals shares your commitment to serving others with dignity and respect. Our company’s values – strong leadership, teamwork, discipline, diversity and work ethic – align with yours. A significant portion of our workforce comes from a military background, and we offer many roles that are a great fit for the skills you’ve gained through your service.

Service to Employment Program (STEP)

United Rentals partnered with Workforce Opportunity Services (WOS) in 2013 to create our Service to Employment Program (STEP). STEP is a unique work-study program to help veterans transition back into working life. It offers 10 weeks of in-class and hands-on training, where veterans learn technical and social skills, meet with our leaders and experience what it’s like to work at our branches. Apply for our STEP program.

Careers for Military veterans at United Rentals

Support for active military members

For those who are still actively serving, we provide you and your spouse with the flexibility needed to serve in the National Guard or Reserves. At United Rentals, we:

  • Safeguard the jobs of employees who serve in the uniformed services
  • Provide pay during active duty deployments
  • Support reserve training commitments
  • Provide job protection for both service members and eligible family members during an active leave or medical leave

Veterans United: Together, we’re making a difference

Veterans United is a military employee resource group that was formed to help support and promote our veterans. All current employees, regardless of military service, are welcome to be part of this community of volunteers. In every location, district and region across our footprint, passionate employees are eager to give back to individuals and organizations that have served in the armed forces in the U.S. or Canada. They support or participate in fundraising events or share their time and talents through a day of service at a Fisher House or the Valour Place.

Meet Our Veterans

Raven, Inside Sales Rep, U.S. Army, E-4

United Rentals recognized my veteran status and has shown appreciation even as early as in my interview. There is a strong sense of comraderie and integrity displayed through daily practices. I really feel like this company cares about their employees overall well-being. There is tremendous opportunity here and the leadership team is always working to ensure that employees are knowledgeable and comfortable, which ultimately makes us promotable!

Anthony, Outside Sales Rep US Army, Cpl

This is the largest rental company in the industry, which offers employees great opportunities. United Rentals acknowledges service members better than any company I have ever worked for. In the military, teamwork was vital in accomplishing our missions and I have applied that here. It is a great place to work.

Marc, Division Safety Manager U.S. Army, CW-4

United Rentals is a company with a great team mentality. Service members will feel right at home with the ‘let’s get the mission done’ atmosphere. Excellence is rewarded with promotion opportunities, especially for those willing to relocate (which vets are used to doing).

Tom, Branch Manager U.S. Air Force, E-4; Air National Guard, E-4

I started as a Road Technician and was able to use the skills that were taught to me through my tenure in the military to become an engaged and positive employee. Possessing this type of attitude has led the pathway for my career as a successful Service Manager, and now Branch Manager.

Daryl, Service Manager U.S. Navy, E-5; U.S. Army, E-7

What I like best about working at United Rentals is the teamwork and feeling like you’re a part of the organization. Your input matters. I’ve used my military skills of leadership and working together as a team at United Rentals.

Trent, Branch Manager U.S. Army, E-4

What I like most about working at United Rentals is the opportunity it affords me to grow. In the military, I was trained as a Mechanic and when I went to NCO school, I was trained on many management techniques. I was hired as a Mechanic and have moved up through many positions to Branch Manager.
