A significant portion of our workforce comes from a military background, and we offer many roles that are a great fit for the skills you’ve gained through your service.

Support for active military members and spouses

For those who are still actively serving, we provide you and your spouse with the flexibility needed to serve in the National Guard or Reserves. At United Rentals, we:

  • Safeguard the jobs of employees who serve in the uniformed services
  • Support reserve training commitments
  • Provide job protection for both service members and eligible family members during an active leave or medical leave
  • Provide career opportunities for military spouses through our Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP)
  • Offer additional support and resources for military members and their families through our Veterans United Employee Resource Group

Veterans United: Together, we’re making a difference

At United Rentals, our Veterans United employee resource group is committed to the effective placement, transition and career development of all current and former service members and spouses. We honor and celebrate the military principles and camaraderie veterans bring to our company culture, encourage engagement with community partners who serve veterans and provide a supportive veteran ecosystem through networking and sponsorship.

Career Skills Programs

We offer Skillbridge, Individual Career Skills Program (CSP) and Cooperative Work Experience (CWE) programs to active-duty U.S. and Canadian veterans within 6 months of separation. We are seeking veterans who are able to start work within 90 days of separation of service.

These programs include:

  • On the job training (OJT) and learning of products, systems, safety and company culture
  • Job rotations
  • Upon completion, participants are eligible to receive full-time employment
  • Relocation may be available to any of our 1500+ locations with open positions

How we give back to the military community

We are particularly supportive of military veterans, and provide significant assistance to nonprofits that help disabled veterans.

  • Committed to aiding veterans in their daily lives, Soldier Strong focuses on providing Ekso Bionic suits for disabled veterans. United Rentals has sponsored the donation of two Ekso suits to the Boston and Dallas VA hospitals.
  • Turns for Troops assists American military veterans who suffered major injuries or post-traumatic stress while serving their country by funding access to state-of-the-art rehabilitation programs and technologies through SoldierStrong, and provides critical support for financial and housing security following military service through Operation Homefront. Through Turns for Troops, United Rentals has donated more than $2.3 million since 2016, as an extension of our partnerships with INDYCAR driver Graham Rahal, and NASCAR drivers Austin Hill and Ryan Preece.
  • United Rentals partners with the Fisher House Foundation in the U.S. and Valour Place in Canada, non-profits that provide a network of comfort homes for veterans and military families receiving treatment.
